4. where would the freedom be? where would be our time to do ANYTHING anymore? we would go to school all day, do homework, eat, go to bed and repeat
5. the problem in our education has NOTHNG to do with the schools, the schools are fine, its the students that arent willing to learn, that dont give a shit, and that live in neighborhoods where you get the shit beat out of you for being smart, with all the porno drugs liquor sex and violence, thats what they need to get rid of to better education...why is this helping students get their grades better? because while their in school their away from that instead of getting rid of those big things and still letting us have our freedom, they want to punish US for what other people grow into and suck other kids into
6. kids who get bullied on a daily basis, welcome to hell and mass suicides, kids who even get good grades already, welcome to mass drop outs
and finally the last that i can think of at the moment, 7. high school is already home of stress for 95% of students, why make it home of stress AND (just plain) home for 200% of all students?

... The system is fine as it is now... why the hell change it? The problem isn't in the time spent, it's in the students... no respect for anyone and anything, no self respect, and no effort. However, they do need to reduce the homework load or at least be a bit more lenient when it comes to a deadline... It's ridiculous most of the time. I spent almost literally my entire weekend(the just past one) doing homework, with no time to do ANYTHING but eat and sleep... and getting on the game for a few hours Saturday for the mando war and what not left me with no time the rest of the weekend to do anything. At least that's in my situation... Idk what the contrast between Canadian and American schooling is at the moment so it's hard to relate.

I do agree that schooling is very important though and those who skip and don't go are fools. I have honors 85%+ average overall... and i don't get shit for it. I just get people trying to pay me to do their homework, or whatever else... LOL. But I'm not a pushover so that shit doesn't work with me unless they merely want assistance in understanding what is being taught, or they have a decent sum for meh, which still hasn't happened LOL.

I do not live in an environment where people are put down for being intelligent... no matter who it is in the area, there is nobody who will do that save a select few. You will have a future full of financial difficulties you skippers out there, especially if you want a nice car or something... and a nice house... you won't be able to afford it, unless your life aspiration is to marry a rich person. Well lets look at the bright side of things... at least the low class workplaces (i.e. Mcdonalds) won't be begging for teen part-timers... and the way it's going now with fast food fanatics there will be a lot more job openings there... 5. The problem is everything; schools, teachers, kids, parents, policies, restrictions, etc etc etc. We only have ourselves to blame.
6. Obviously schools need to prioritize problems such as violence, bullying, drugs etc before they should consider increasing time spent at school.

It's not a pity, it's a privilege. People nowadays are so lazy because we here in America take everything we have for granted. We are so accustomed to our everyday lives we don't realize how easy we have it. By the time it takes you to get to this point of my post 59 people just died and that is the cold hard truth. Numbers never lie. Look at the US statistics of all these things; our test scores in comparison to other countries, drop-out rates, college graduates, etc etc. From what I read in one of those articles you posted, there are numbers that prove that if we spent more time in school, our statistics would improve... Like I said, numbers never lie.

Sure you may not like going to school, sure you might have less free time and may have to sacrifice a thing or two. Welcome to LIFE. lol

Also, Tyrlan you imply that you have to stay in school to be successful & that is not entirely true. There are plenty of opportunities to find success other than staying in school and/or going to college.

Hmm... Inherited business, learning a trade (can't remember what they call that), and something else I can't remember. There are quite a few things yes... but the majority of those who drop out of highschool won't do that... that is what i implied. No you don't need to go to college or university to be successful. Depends on what you want to do, which will affect as to whether you decide to take the opportunity at the post secondary schools or not. If you just don't want to go there, there are other options of course.

In the end it's not about changing how much time we spend doing activities we're unwilling to do or unhappy doing, it's about changing who we are as individuals and adapt or even "evolve", per-say, to enjoy these activities with an "open mind". We must change who we are as people if we aim to change who we are as a nation.

Military, trades, family business, entrepreneurial opportunities, entertainment, etc... the list goes on and on. I respect what you're saying and I think that staying in school and going to college is usually the best route, but I also think it's not for everyone.

Adults dont have to put up with it anymore so that gives them the right to push us around. I mean seriously kids have a say in their own lives I mean we dont pass laws telling obama he has to keep the toilet seat down for his wife, outrageously stupid to him but this is about as stupid to us.

Fact is school was intended to teach at the elementary level but as you move up the things you learn are very lightly used in later life. Teachers make forms of entertainment in their teaching and students learn it for their test then forget it thats all it was in high school. Way back in the old days they realized this and school continued to add more subjects to challenge us ONLY because its a life lesson not really learning.

We learn responsibility and effort like we have to learn in our future careers. I mean really does anything in Algebra 2 really mean shit? to 95% of the population its probably never used again but giving us assignments and group projects and presenting things was only implemented to teach us to be better people not to learn the material.

The only reason the material is even there is becase its semi useful for some people and it is knowledge just better than having assignments about things we love in which we dont build those life skills. Our society is fine as it is we dont have to be like the French or Italians to have a great country considering our country still is the highest grosser in the world I wouldnt be complaining.

To you guys: Well when I graduated it was the best day of my life pretty much realizing how much I had accomplished. You never realize it until your done I think. I hated homework just as much as any other person but when I finished it I was happy and if I did well I was rewarded.

I have no qualms with Obama, mainly because by the time all of this finally comes around I will no longer be in this country. There's too much wrong with it and the worst part is, is that nobody seems to see it or they look over it. I'm at school all the time, not because I want to learn, but because all of my friends are there and some of the 'learning' activities are actually fun.

School, to me, is the best route to getting a good career, however, like those before me have posted, there are MANY other routes one can take to success. This country is free in the sense of trade and career choices. We essentially lose most of our rights as citizens as soon as we walk onto school grounds. If we truly didn't want to go, then we could make ways of educating ourselves at home or with specified tutors.

Again...doesn't matter to me what happens, I am also looking forward to 2012, Sinister, but it's still a bit ahead and no guarantee. I like random rants, that make no sense btw, lol. Very Happy

Well yes, usually the stereotypical connotation is that College, University, and what not leads to a better job, money, better life etc. But remember... I never completely 100% agree with a broad and generalized stereotype... test me on that if you want... and no i do not agree that it is the only way to get a good job. It IS an option which most often leads to such things, but it is not the only route.

Those are the kinds of things i was thinking about... although i just couldn't name them all off right away. As i said, i agree that there are many opportunities otherwise. The point I have attempted to make is that you SHOULD AT LEAST get your high school education. Where you go from there is your decision, based on what you feel is right for you. High school is a great help in discovering what you want to do especially with all the different opportunities to help you discover, and a variety of subjects to learn as well. So... DON'T DROP OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL.
